The Approach in a Nutshell

Flexibility

Looking for a low-pressure, socially uncomplicated fun activity? Want to nurture an unusual talent? The curriculum is flexible enough to suit a wide variety of needs. There's plenty of material. Choose a plan and sequence that works for YOU!

It's All There

You're always getting ideas and making tools to teach your special student. I've kept this in mind, and provided tools and info for you to use how you choose

  • Worksheet pages
  • Songs or song excerpts interlaced with text
  • Parent/Educator guidance inserted on the same page as the activity, as needed
  • One Step at a Time

  • Elements of a task separated and approached one by one
  • Simple, memorable terminology
  • Spread out: Pages not crowded, large, readable type
  • active learning: worksheets, flash cards, games, etc.

    Fun AND serious

While I take your teaching/learning experience very seriously, I want it to be fun. The best way to achieve a thorough grounding in the "classical," or "traditional" way of piano playing is through a mastery of basic musical concepts.

    User-friendly terminology

Traditional music terminology is based on foreign words and often non-intuitive. I use terms that have immediate impact:
